Historical Romances with Pirates, Bodyguards, & More

  • Diary of an Accidental Wallflower

Diary of an Accidental Wallflower by Jennifer McQuiston
Diary of an Accidental Wallflower by Jennifer McQuiston is $1.99. This is the first book in McQuiston’s Seduction Diaries series. Readers who enjoyed it loved that the hero was of a lower social class than the heroine. Several readers also describe McQuiston’s books as their new favorite comfort reads – now that’s a huge compliment! Plus, McQuiston’s podcast episode with us,  is one of the most popular in the archives.

The first irresistible installment in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer McQuiston’s Seduction Diaries series proves that some secrets are too delicious to hide.

Pretty and popular, Miss Clare Westmore knows exactly what (or rather, who) she wants: the next Duke of Harrington. But when she twists her ankle on the eve of the Season’s most touted event, Clare is left standing in the wallflower line watching her best friend dance away with her duke.

Dr. Daniel Merial is tempted to deliver more than a diagnosis to London’s most unlikely wallflower, but he doesn’t have time for distractions, even one so delectable. Besides, she’s clearly got her sights on more promising prey. So why can’t he stop thinking about her?

All Clare wants to do is return to the dance floor. But as her former friends try to knock her permanently out of place, she realizes with horror she is falling for her doctor instead of her duke. When her ankle finally heals and she faces her old life again, will she throw herself back into the game?

Or will her time in the wallflower line have given her a glimpse of who she was really meant to be?

  • The Lady’s Guard

The Lady’s Guard by Christi Caldwell
The Lady’s Guard by Christi Caldwell is $1.99 at Amazon! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and since the publisher is Amazon’s romance imprint, it’s unlikely to get price-matched. Readers really loved the opposites attract element of the romance. However, if you’re a Caldwell fan, readers warn that this one is a bit more darker and emotional than her other books.

In the third installment of USA Today bestselling author Christi Caldwell’s Sinful Brides series, a rogue turned bodyguard risks his heart on the woman he’s hired to protect.

At the notorious Hell and Sin Club nestled in London’s dark streets, Niall Marksman relishes taking the fortunes of the very same society that once disregarded his existence. Oh yes, Niall has sold his soul to the devil and paid dearly. It’s only when Lady Diana Verney appears at the gaming club looking for help that Niall knows that the devil has finally come to collect … by forcing him to protect the duke’s pampered daughter.

Disdained by the peerage and ignored by her father, Diana knows that someone wants to harm her. Her only protection is Niall, a scarred, intense man who lives and dies by the knife. Now her life and safety are in the hands of the most dangerous man in London. But a man raised on the city’s mercenary streets is adept at stealing anything he wishes—including a lady’s reputation and her heart.

  • The Princess and Her Pirate

The Princess and Her Pirate by Lois Greiman
The Princess and Her Pirate by Lois Greiman is $1.99! I was expecting this to be an old school romance given the cover, but was surprised to learn it was published in 2003 (according to Goodreads). My favorite review of this book:

His penis is its own character. Enough said.

Princess Tatiana needs a groom to help her rule her vulnerable country. So she embarks on a desperate mission — traveling in disguise to a neighboring land to forge an alliance with the dashing Cairn MacTavish, the fabled “Pirate Lord.” But instead of a marriage, a rude welcome awaits the brave, beautiful royal when she is accused of being a common thief — and is taken captive by the rogue she had meant to wed!

Not since his adventurous days on the high seas has MacTavish felt the sort of excitement this gorgeous hellion inspires. He knows she is hiding something — and each claim of innocence that comes from her lush, inviting lips only inflames his desire for a kiss…and for the passionate night that will inevitably follow. Yet a past betrayal is still fresh in MacTavish’s memory, and he dares not trust his heart. Now he vows to learn this mystery woman’s secrets…even if he has to seduce her to do it.

  • Secrets of a Proper Countess

Secrets of a Proper Countess by Lecia Cornwall
Secrets of a Proper Countess by Lecia Cornwall is $1.99 at Amazon and $2.74 elsewhere. This is a historical romance and though the description is a little vague, it seems like there’s some one night stand-esque action going on, but the hero doesn’t know who the heroine is. Some readers thought the characters experienced more lust than love, while others say that the writing is what would happen if you combined Mary Balogh with Amanda Quick. Have you read this one?

Lecia Cornwall, a brilliant new voice in historical romance fiction, makes a truly spectacular debut with Secrets of a Proper Countess. This Regency Era delight, written in the smart, sensually captivating style of Lorraine Heath and Elizabeth Hoyt, tells the story of a shy, retiring lady who lets her passions run wild while masked and in the arms of an infamous rakish Marquess—a brief yet achingly romantic encounter that forever changes the rogue, who vows to find and unmask his mystery dream lover.
